SnooPING AS usual I see...

Uhh, ok....
I got him/her (it)
off of a sassyfras tree, and I get fresh leaves daily. It eats at night, and I have only one. You can find Tiger Swallowtail larva on sassyfras, cherry, wild cherry, apple, ash, and a few others. look for a slightly curld leaf... during daytime. I have another picture in the Photo Gallery before he molted. I have a decent sized stick in there for this evening, since he'll wanna move around. Anything else ya would like to know?

Oh, yeah. I also clean him out daily. And if he gets scared, he'll shoot out two tentacles, looking like a forked tounge. Then it'll start to stink. This is his denfesive pose.

This, I found out, is NOT a Tiger Swallowtail larva! This is a Spicebrush Swallowtail larva!

Very good photo. I love Spicebush Swallowtail caterpillars, I raised dozens of these last year and i have a bunch now. Just be sure not to annoy it too much. I have learned that if it extends its osmeterium (thats those two things that look like a forked tongue) out too much they can damage it and that isn't a good thing. Good luck with him!

love nature but not a total nature nut

hi, i'm new to this but just today i found what could be a tiger swallowtail catapillar, he has the red tenticles that come out when anoyed, and then releases a strange pungent smell. I tried to take a pic but my cam is not very good.. there is also a cocoon on the same grapefruit tree where i found him..He is almost like your pic but darker in color and no spots down his back... Can I take them and keep them in a terrerium til they hatch or would that be thier death? Rating: 5/5
