This black and white bug is approximately 1 and 1/2 inches long

Family: Cerambycidae, Long-horned Beetles view all from this family

Description 1-1 1/2" (25-38 mm). Prothorax whitish with large bluish-gray spot at center, sharp points at sides. Elytra have 3 bluish-gray bands, 3 whitish bands, and 2 small whitish dots. Head black. Antennae long, bluish gray and white with black tips.

Food Larva feeds on California laurel, Oregon ash, and New Mexico willow.

Life Cycle Eggs are laid on bark. Larvae tunnel inward, later prepare pupal chambers.

Habitat Forests and woods.

Range California to Alaska, also New Mexico.

Discussion This striking beetle is recognized easily, but its life cycle is still not fully known.
