Oh my gosh, it's really coming along!

Description: A long way away from some cans of foam, some plexiglass, and much confusion, this is my leo gex enclosure in progress. For much technical advice and inspiration, I thank infuzion912, sprastr, banana, dutchie, leprdGeckoGuy, KenBartenfeld (wiring) and mantisman, whom I call master of the foam! Next is grout and sealant... Thank you for all the information and help, fellow animal nuts!

Looking really good! What type of substrate are you going to use(because it looks too hard to wrap paper towls around the bottom!)? I like the rock-climbing wall design. Are you going to paint it any special colors? Can't wait to see it when it's done!

nice job. all i recomend is that you make the surface a little smoother... sand paper would do it. other then that great

Hopeless Romantic meant for a different world

I am going to coat it with a self sealing grout to fill in all the foam air bubbles. Then I am going to seal it with a flat enviro-friendly enamel sprinkled with sand. I was going to make it all bone (slightly off) white, but then come to find leopard geckos don't really like it that bright, so I am probably going to coat it with grey sand. I already coated some grapewood with the enamel and sand, (bone colored) and it turned out very nice. Thanks for the ideas!

Hopeless Romantic meant for a different world

Today I used a self-sealing grout (Spectra-lock) to smooth out the foam. Unfortunately I ran out of grout. As for the substrate, I'm debating between tile, slate, or a calcium sand.

My childhood love of herps has directed my life, to the point I've even gotten a Master's degree in Zoology by researching alligators. My "friends" are much smaller these days though.

Any reason why you picked spectralock? Just wondering if any grout will do. Thanx. Looks great!

Spectralock has an inegrated sealant, sort of like some latex epoxy mixed in. The sealant can't chip off, it's part of the grout and makes it stronger. It's also easy to work with, but all grout is easy to work with. Thanks for the comments!
