I'm an outdoors person.

I agree with T.H. your subject appears to be a black rat snake (Elaphe obseleta obseleta)although non toxic they can be cantankerous and bitey if molested but will calm down with gentle handling.

 Depending on where you are, that could easily be an emery's rat. Some of the grays get real dark, but would once again depend on where u r for locale Rating: 3/5
