Only just developing a real interest in herps, and only just acquired the equipment to photograph them properly. Will only photograph 'in the field'.

I think it unlikely it was named after your professor (depending on how old he is). As far as I can determine the name is attributable to Dumeril and Bibron 1837, (see 'Amphibians & Reptiles of Trinidad and Tobago' by John C. Murphy ISBN 0-89464-971-x).
