Cottonmouth Scales

Description: This is how I do the scales for the cottonmouth.

After trying various techniques, I decided to make my own stamps.

I won't be using the largest size as it will be too big for this sculpture.

What a great idea! You stamped the scales! What material did you make the scale stamps from? I etch the scales by hand with a fine tip tool. It takes forever!!!!!

I enjoy the catching and/or keeping of reptiles and amphibians. Other interests include: art, music, video games, movies yadda yadda yadda and then some.

thanks for the comments.

ratsnake, I have been working on this sculpture off and on for about a year...maybe even longer. It has been sitting mostly though because I have had to wait to get equipment and materials to finish it.

GEXY, The stamps are made of resin(the same resin I use when I cast the sculptures). Basically, all I had to do was to sculpt a single scale, build up a wall around it and after some fine tuning, I poured the resin into the cavity. After I made the first,(largest) I used it to make the initial cavity and resized it for the next smaller size.
