The new pond is larger than the previous one. The walls are not as steep and were built at a slope. I keep the water clean by using a submersible pump to transfer water to an external filter which then returns it back into the pond. I've used this method for the past 13 years and it works. If I want to drain the pond, I simply pump the water into my landscaping. I also tap into my sprinkler system in order to fill the pond. During the winter months, I have the pond filled with well water throughout the day. This keeps the water temperature around 72 degrees and allows me to keep the animals outside year round.

Big Tank,

I house the pump in a perforated, 5 gallon bucket. The bucket is then placed on top of a cinder block. This keeps the pump off of the pond floor, thus, keeping it from sucking up junk from the bottom.
