Sure he is. But you shouldn't feed him apples, it screws up the tortoise's metabolism in the long run, creating deformity on the shell and beak, giving slow growth and a higher mortality.

It's a horrible lie that tortoises should be fed on fruits and veggies.
It's much more healthy for it to be fed on dandelions and grasses, cale etc (except ICEBERG-salat).

A tip that a danish tortoise-breeder told me once, and this goes for all tortoises (except Redfooted Tortoises, which need fruits and small amounts of animal-protein once in a while):

feed with:
as little PROTEIN as possible
as much FIBER as possible
and never with fruit and veggies

- this is not mounted on you in partc., I'm just kind of tired from seing tortoises being fed like this..It sickens me that many of us Reptile-fans, seem to have a lack on wisdom, when it comes to the feeding of tortoises.
