New Screen Cage Set-up

Description: 2x2x4 Screen Cage that will soon house a trio of Knight Anoles outdoors (still kinda cool here at night is SE Va.)I reinforced the top with 1/4 screen to support flo. strip lights and domes for when I bring it indoors. To combat the heat and humidity problems common with screen cages, I plan on using the clear plastic film used to insulate windows during the winter on 3 sides and a thin sheet of plexi on the front for proper viewing. The small space that seperates the main door from the bottom door and the top will stay uncovered to provide ventilation.

Life long anole enthusiast and iguana lover.

A 2x2x4' cage is roughly 27,648 cubic inches, which translates to roughly 119.69 gallons. Knight Anoles are about 7-10x bigger than green Anoles. The typical green Anole does best in a 10 gallon enclosure, with a marginal 10 gallons per additional green Anole. That logically says a Knight Anole would thus need 70 gallons, with a marginal 70 gallons per additional knight. Three knights therefore need almost 210 gallons. Your cage is perfect for two though. Also, be sure and keep the number of male occupants to one.

Have you had the Anoles for a while or are they going to be new pets?

AlAnolis,

My trio are long term captives. 1.2, with the females being mother and daughter. I succesfully hatched the daughter in '99. I agree with you that bigger is always better, and compared to the the shallow 55gal tank that I've had them in, I think they'll do great. I have a 260 Reptarium that I had them in for almost all of '01, including outdoors in the summer, but the tediousness of doing maintenance and daily chores through the zippered door got to be to much of a pain. Thanks for the comment!
