This is my latest project.
A hanging terarium.
From the side it looks like an egg.
It is suspended from the cieling by two wires.
sliding doors, ventilation on the sides.
Lighting and reflector are built into the top.
The tank is made out of plywood and is about 80 literes (21 gallons).
hey...thanks for the escription of the cage. I'm going to see if i can try to build one. It probably wont turn out like that but ill give it a go. One question, how did you wire the lighting and do u have some sort of cover over it so that the animal cant burn himself? Also i was wondering if a Crested or or some type of gecko would fair well in a cage like that? Thanks for all the help...amazing cage

For lighting I use 2x9W osram Dulux flouriscent bulbs.
These bulbs do not produce enough heat so that burns can occur.
In my tank 2x9W seems to be sufficient and the plants do well.
I assume that all geckoes can adapt to living in hanging terrarium. The only difference between this tank and any other tank is that it swings whenever someone comes in contact with it, most often when the tank is opened and closed.
in the beginning geckoes can be a little sceptical to the swinging motion that the tank sometimes produces but after a while, when they discover that the tank doesn't fall down just because it swings they settle down as normal.
I can't imagine that this type of tank would be suitable for land dwellers though..

hey...amazing cage my friend...i love it. I would like to try my hand at building one like this but i was wondering if you could send me some pics of the inside of the upper part where you house the lighting of the cage...if not i was wondering if it would be possible for you to send me how to build it. I have one question, did you use bracings along the top and bottom of the cage where the arch is and what did you use as your lighting...thanks again....My e-mail is tyrunning44@hotmail.com...Thanks alot......Ty

to storyoftheyear34:
The cage is made out of 3 pieces of wood. 2 sides and a thin plywood that is the top, back and bottom.
I used screws and glue to fix the plates toghether.
Sorry but my webspace on kingsnake is all used up, I can't upload more pics. :(
The lighting consits of 2 9w osram dulux.
above the ligting I bent a 1mm aluminum plate to the same diameter as the top of the tank, this functions as a reflector.
I sent you a couple of pictures, hope they illustrate what you wanted to know.
Sorry but I lost the blueprints for this tank.
I'll have to remake the blueprints at some point but I just haven't had tome to do so yet..
