I honestly understand and respect the place of concern that each of you who objects to this photo is coming from. But please think about this a little. If I remove this photo because it shows a breed in a bad light, or because it shows two dogs who "might" be fighting or "might" be playing, it creates a precedent. We've had members post photos of their dogs that had been doctored up for Halloween, with the eyes made red and the fangs enlarged. Would I have to remove those? Or only if they were pits? Is a picture of two Borzois "play/fighting" OK, but a picture of a Rott and a pit "play/fighting" not ok?

I can't crawl into the mind and heart and soul of the person who posted this, but there is not one speck of context for this photo, such as an offensive title or comment by the poster, to make me think this was meant as anything but a humorous or cute shot, such as any one of us might take of our dogs. I don't think they are seriously fighting or I WOULD remove it, and it WOULD violate our TOS, as dog fighting is illegal. But I really don't that is what is happening here, and if these dogs were of a different breed, few would have objected, if anyone did.

I love dogs. I care about dogs. I care about the image of dogs who were originally bred as fighting dogs. But I don't see any reasonable way to have one set of rules for those types of dogs, and another set for other dogs. I have to judge the deed, not the breed. And if this photo would be ok if it was two shih tzus, then it has to be ok if it's two pit bulls.

Anyone who feels I am missing the boat here is free to email me at PHChristy@pethobbyist.com so we can discuss it further, but please do not feel this photo is here because we don't care or haven't thought about the issues. Several of us on staff have discussed this photo since it was first brought to our attention, and some on staff also want it removed. But I feel that removing it sets a dangerous precedent.

I don't care for the pic, but if it was my dogs, it wouldn't be posted and the person who did post it should ask for it to be removed! But, to believe it was posted just to stir things up!

I have a rottweiller and 2 long haired miniture dachsunds. The smallest of which has the worst temper. I think all dogs have the potential for aggression. People should respect dogs for what they are... Dogs

At first sight it looks like these two are clearly playing and not fighting. Dogs bareing teeth does not have to mean they are fighting or about to fight. The evidence proves it, there is shredded paper, etc. Also remember pits were bred to fight WITHOUT growling, barking etc. They fight almost nonchallantly(sp?). So that said, you would think they are not fighting. However, look at the other picture this person has posted. A rattle snake with his fangs latched onto a mans face. So even if these dogs aren't fighting, the posters integrity and intentions must be questioned. Just my two cents.

I think everyone is taking the picture very wrong. As you can tell these dogs are well taken care of. And they look like they are inside dogs as well. I don't think these dogs are fighting. As you can tell by the way they looked the owner loved them. So why would the owner go and grab a camera in the heat of a fight, instead of somehow breaking up the fight. Anybody who has owns dogs know that fights can lead to very bad injuries and even death.

Well, lets take a look here. I am a breeder of neoploitain mastiffs, a much lareger type of dog, though their histories are similar. My dogs will often play fight, like this. Notice how neither dog is scarred, ears are not notched (or cropped for fighting, for that matter) and one appears slightly stooped at the shoulder, a sure sign of play. Plus the ravaged paper in the background says to me that these too are definatly playing. Perhaps the subordinate has stepped slightly over his line. I mean, often a mother will snap at one of her pups to stop unacceptable behaviour. Surely no one would say that that is the sign of a viscious dog? Now, I do not agree with training dogs to fight, but almost all "fighting breeders" I have seen keep their dogs seperated in different kennels. Unfortunatly, while walking my dogs, I have seen many many mothers run and grab their children away from my dogs, even tho I put them in a sit stay when a young (and usually curious) child want to pet them. They are fabulous with children, and I am so incredibly sick of people assuming a dog's personality by sight. I wish all you out there would lay off and do your friggin research before opening your badly assuming mouths. To the poster of this picture: You have two very nice looking dogs there. Nice coat quality, and nice seeming musculature. I'd sure like to see them in motion. =)

I think it is a shame that ppl are passing negative judgement on this picture just because of the type of breed it appears to be.

I could take a similiar picture of my boxers while they are in play mode...and it would come out looking aggressive. They bare their teeth...and they growl. BUT they are playing. A photo would not show the entire picture.

Are some boxers aggressive? yes.

are mine? no.

would it be fair to judge my animal's temperments on only a stillshot photo?

I don't think so.

They are not fighting dogs so take a chill. When dogs play they bark and mouth at each other. He just took a still shot wile they were mouthing. I have rescue pits at my home and they play like that all the time like all dogs do. People need to stop over reacting and just relax. Remember the key words "still photo".

well i think the picture protrays the bad sides of a pitt. the dog is a wonderfull breed and is very great around children i own a pair of dogs that share the same "bad list" as the pitt . but like they say first impretion is allways imprtant .

now the question arises what if it was a different breed of dog like a domation, or a shit-zu,or even a pair of pomeranians the statment still stands i would think twice of posting a picture of this sort on the internet
ive delt with many of breeds of dogs in my life time and seen the marks of a fought dog. and yes i see ther are none on eaither animal and clearly states that neither dog has gone passed play fighting .

now if any one has any other opinions on the matter .kool. but as my facts are conserned the owner should remove the picture . maybe if you'd showed the dogs in an other matter like laying in the front yard or like them cleaning each other .

so please for all idiots that may not know a dogs playing behavior and may think as their first impretion of this breed of dog please think twice about posting a picture of this sort on the net .

p.s. please help me protect the PITT BULL people in my area want them removed and destroyed and alot of people from my area look at this site and by "looks" of this picture they will think other wise . when i have kids of my own and they want a dog i would want the pitt bull to be a selection for them .

The fact of the matter is, If these were really agressive pit bulls, There would not have been time to take a picture. My two show there teeth all of the time when one is tired of playing, but there rarely every try one another.

All this talk about how mean they look is insane. They obviously have not the slightest idea about the physical nature of any dog what so ever....My advise to them. DO NOT GET A DOG. YOU WILL DO MORE HARM TO IT BY NOT ALLOWING IT TO PLAY. MOST PEOPLE MEAN DOGS ARE CAUSED BY PEOPLE OF THE LIKE....I Mean look at the background. Do you think dogs that were fighting would have the time to rip paper during the mix? Then they may say that is what may have caused the fight! Well, do you see any injuries. SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN WITHOUT COMMON SENSE. BE NICE, YOU CAN'T BLAME THEM FOR LACK OF SIMPLE SMARTS. THAT IS LIKE BLAMING AN ANT FOR BEING SMALL!!!!!BY THE WAY NICE PHOTO..
