Poor little guy. I had to do the same thing to my russian last year. This is usually done when they stop eating. Its a feeding tube. Since they aren't eating, they don't get the nutrients and energy needed to help stave off infection...basically a downward spiral.
The tube goes right into the stomach and you use a little syringe to give them baby food...
