I would like an Idea what kind of snake this is. I live in central Louisiana a few blocks from a lake and in the forest. snake made a hood like a cobra and hissed at me, no fangs I could see. 3 feet long pinkish underside with alittle red and black

Hi, Not a mud snake. Hognose snake. A very harmless snake. Type in hognose snake in search and you will see all the different types. Beautiful animals.

to be more sepecific its an eastern hognose, which i hear are a bit more snapier than other species. they normaly are not biting snakes, and if they do bite most of the time its nothing to worry about, but you could be alergicto their venom, check out this site http://www.herpnet.net/bite/

Ya, eastern hognoses have rear fanges basilcally harmless, unless allergic it could cause some swellin... They are a rear fanged snake whos venom is used to paralize toads. Sometimes when the they stike they dont even have there mouth open. There bite is similar to garter snakes bite, it really just stuns you that that they bit you lol...Nice pic
