This is a Diamondback Water Snake
(Nerodia rhombifer) Not a Mud Snake because of keeled scales and visible pattern.

That is a northern watersnake, there are no other watersnakes in ontario, except lake erie which is a subspecies, and only found in a few locations.

Am I the only one thinking insularun (lake erie water). I see a hint of a crossband that kind of bothers me but it's not unheard of. I think Weatley is right by Pelee if it is then they are maybe in the area, though they're more often assosiated with the island. insularum and sipedon hybridize readily and mainland snakes are seldom of certain parentage.
PS
There are no muds or rombifers in Ontario.
