I am not a entomologist but I think it is a type of robber fly. Order diptera, family Asilidae. Hope that helps.

Yes, Masterboggler is right.
I am an entomologist, and this is a member of the Robberfly family Asilidae.
They are not dangerous to humans, although they can deliver a painful sting with their mouthparts if you take them in your hands.
Normally they feed on all kinds of insects, which they take with their powerful legs and then suck dry!
