I am also from Ocean County- Manahawkin Area. They are not as rare as on ewould think. I found about 5 new breeding sites this year just by tromping through the forest doing my research

have you been reporting alot of research to the nj herp atlas project? Im starting an orgaization/club at school to do population studies of local herps for the project. What places do you do most of your searching? I live in Bayville (right in the thick of the pine barrens). I spend alot of time in Double Trouble. There are always so many herps. Last time I went I found a snapping turtle while wading in some lillie pads, a few frogs, and almost tripped over a northern water snake basking by this small stream. I also spend alot of time at winding river park in tomsriver. Its absolutely chock full of red backed salamanders and a variety of tree frogs, there are some neat sphagnum moss swampy environments.

I have worked in conjunction with NJ ENSP this past summer and did the NAMPS surveys. My research findings were given to them. Double trouble is nice...found lots of stuff there myself. Ever try Wharton or Makepeace? This is where I find the goods...

hi, i also live in the manahawkin area. every spring i go out and take pictures of the treefrogs in our area. not only h.andersonii, but h.versicolor as well. there are thousands of pine barren treefrogs in the swamps along rt 72,from the back of ocean acres to rt 539. i usually take my best pictures in the swamps behind warren grove. i'll be going back out there again in may if you want to tag along. i take my grey treefrog pictures down in winslow twp. i also have a good spotted salamander spot down by egg harbor city. lots of vernal ponds. if you want to get ahold of me, my email address is; (thephilthyone666@aol.com). feel free to email me any time. phil...

You know you most likely need a permit to be allowed to even poke a Pine Barrens treefrog....
