I believe it's some kind of Lycosa (aka wolf spiders)
I'm in Charlotte and I've run across several, one even was carrying her babies. They live all across the state (find 'em alot in my hometown in the foothills)
Wolf spiders are roving predators, don't build webs. Far as I know their bite isn't anything to worry about.

I live in AR, and these spiders love my basement. Some get as big as silver dollars (including leg span, of course). I have captured probably 100 of these (I don't believe in killing them), and even the biggest ones have never bit me. I have heard they have a painful, though harmless bite, but they apparently must be forced to do so.

I keep the same exact kind of wolf spider. She's a complete pig, eating 1 to 3 crickets every day.
