safo clearly that is NOT the diving chameleon. you can see by the markings on its back it is the seldom seen shell back chameleon native to hare island in the indian ocean.

Yeah I think Dennis is right.... But I think it's the radiated shell back chameleon.... Dude, where'd you get that? Those are worth alot of money. I only know of one or two in captivity.

tyler the radiated shell back and the shell back chameleons are very similar. the only visiable difference is the bars or stripes on the shell or back of the chameleons. the radiated has more of a reddish colored bars or stripes. while the shell back has the yellow as this one clearly has. it's a suttle difference but a difference just the same. also the radiated shell back chameleon tends to prefer a more forested habitat. the "standard"(if there is such a thing)shell back chameleon enjoys and flourishes in more open fresh waters.

lol....so what is it then?...is it some special kinda turtle...or the regular res?..
Dennis, I hate to disagree with you, but I still think it's the radiated.... You're right about the yellow bars along the back, but obviously you can see from the picture that his tail is short. It's a well known fact that the shell back has a longer tail than the radiated shell back. It also has more of an elongated shape to it's shell, where the radiated shell back is round, like the one in the picture. I think it would be fair to say that I have more experience with the shell backs and radiated shell backs than anyone. If you or someone you know has more experience, let me know who. It is truly a spectacular animal and anyone who owns one should keep it at the highest standards for chameleon husbandry. It will only thrive in these conditions.

tyler i stand corrected. i have to commend peyman on putting together a habitat that will allow his chameleon to thrive. notice the marble table top that he has used to simulate the sandy bottom that the radiated shell back is accustomed to. it's details like these that make captive life for this chameleon enjoyable.
