Just getting started. 46 gallon. Going to start off with firebellies etc, then maybe move into more advances species. Want to put live plants in, but with only gravel and water, I don't know how well they will do. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Both of the fake plants you have are models of two plants that would do fine in just gravel and water. The plant in the left hand corner is commonly called Pothos and will have no problem living in gravel. You can use plastic plant pots filled with gravel to grow them in the water area.

The other type that it looks like you have is some sort of Coleus species which are generally sold as anuals for the garden. They grow fast and get get big but I've used them in my terrarims before, you just have to cut them back every few weeks. They will grow in gravel or in water or in pretty much anything else, tough plants.

You could also have a stop by your local tropical fish store. Almost all of the plants sold as aquatic plants in pet stores will do fine when grown partly in the water. Amazon Swords, Anubias and Arrow Head Vines all would work well. Good luck,

Devin

WOW I would not firebellies in that wonderful setup. there pretty but require extreme cleaning. I would go with a grey tree frogs and leopard frog combo 4 GT and 2 LF. They would be great in that tank.
