how big is your rainbow? i'm thinking about buying one soon, but i'm stuck in a battle between buying my first rainbow boa, or getting another female amazon for my male.

He's about 3.5 ft. When I got him, it was an impulse buy. Now I wish I had gotten a Brazillian or Columbian since their color is so much nicer. The snake is still really cool and the pattern is the same as the others, just in brown. Calm and really friendly. Love him just the same.

yeah, i was thinking about a brazilian. the only time i see guyanans around here is during reptile shows...the brazilians and columbians are a lot more readily available. however, i think i'd still purchase it from a show. a lot of the pet retailers around here take horrible care of their reptiles. theres more then one snake i own that i had bought for the sole purpose that it looked incredibly unhealthy, and i see it almost as a duty to try and bring it back to health. still, the colors on yours are solid, and it is certainly a pretty animal =)

Thanks for the praise. He's a sweetheart. Good luck on your choice. If money were no object and my house was big enough, I'd be bringing in who knows how many snakes. Luckily, I usually shop at a reputable reptile store here on Long Island. D&J's. Very nice guys and spotless store.

What type of Amazon do you have. I'm really itching to get a red one. Thought they look ultra hot! It may be just wishfull thinking, since my wife is terrified of snakes and I'd end up in the street if another one shows up! :)

i've got two garden phase amazons...i love the coloreds too. i really want a bright pink/yellow/ or red one. and they're not as bad as i've heard. i've had them for about a year now, and i handle them. i only got bit once by one, which was my female, and that was about a minute before i bought it. mine have calmed down alot....i think they make excellent arboreal display snakes.

I only have a GTP right now. Check out my pics. I haven't captured the right shot for my other snakes yet. Kaa is really nice and you're right, you have to handle them to get them to calm down. One trick I've learned is that if you get them out of the enclosure with a hook, etc. they won't strike. It seems like they have a thing about something warm, (your hand) reaching into their enclosure. Once out of the enclosure, they're as gentle as any other snake.

you've got a pretty gtp....i've always wanted one, but don't have the cash flow at the moment. most of all i want an emerald right now, i think. i've got the enclosure for it, it's all set up. i just need the animal!

Aren't Emeralds about the same $ as GTPs? Honestly, there aren't many snakes I wouldn't want. There seems to be a growing addiction to these serpents! I just wish my colubrids would learn to poop pieces instead of a blob! :(

yeah, they're roughly around the same price. but i know exactly what you mean when you say "addiction to serpeants". the urge to buy everything available at a reptile show is always there lol.
