Keywords: lumpy betta
This is a betta I am trying to diagnose; the picture was taken at least three weeks ago. I'm posting it to show the height of the "lumps," which have since deflated and turned white.
I recently lost my betta fish to what appear the very same disease. If you have not already lost him, let me offer some advice. He most likely has a simple fungus, but if it is the same strain that my animal recieved, medicines from the fish isle will not be successful. I treated mine for over a month, only to have him slowly progress to death. You should take him to a specialized vet and get a more powerful prescription. He could possibly have a gill fungus instead. At any rate, try the store bought treatments first and if you see no progression, take it to the vet.

ive got a rescued betta that has the same "lumps" in between his eyes. actually, im pretty excited to see or hear about this ailment in another betta because ive found nothing on it in like 6 months. it doesnt seem to bother mine one bit. he eats and swims just fine. he is very energetic as well. anyway, when i rescued him, he was living in a rancid smelling "betta vase" (boycott at all cost) with a peace lily. he had fin rot and popeye wich i cured with maracyn-plus. well, its now 6 months later and hes as healthy as an ox. the lumps havent spread or grown and just look unappealing. im beginning to think that is is indeed a leftover "scar" from some sort of bacteria that had something to do with the conditions that he was kept in.
if your little guy seems otherwise healthy, dont try to medicate it. you could wind up damaging one of his organs or his labyrinth.
good luck with him. hes a looker.

Thanks to all for your help and comments. The old boy just passed away -- of age, I think/hope -- at 3 years old. Thanks again ...
