Keywords: bullfrog green toad

This is a closeup of Spaz Norton, a frog that was found in my sump pump reservoir in the Chicago area. At first I thought he was a green frog and the markings match, but there are no dorsolateral ridges. From what I can tell he/she looks like a young bullfrog. I put it in my vivarium and seems to be getting along for several months now with the rest of the inhabitants. I would appreciate any help with further ID and I will try to get some better pictures. Strictly nocturnal and very shy, it will flee immediately if seen and hide in it's burrow, which also brings up another question.

What is the toxicity of a Chinese fire Bellied Toad? Spaz and Toadzilla (FireBT) have collectively made and reside together in a burrow under a large rock. This has gone on for several months now and they usually go in the water at the same time too. If in fact Spaz is a bullfrog, I'll have to release it once it gets larger otherwise he may eat the others. I have a 100 gallon tank with 2 Long-Tailed Grass Lizards, Lenny & Lizzy, 2 Grey Tree Frogs, Camofrog & Greyfrog, 1 Green Tree Frog, Frogbreath, 1 Chinese Fire-Belly Toad, Toadzilla, 1 Bullfrog? Spaz Norton, and an African Millipede named Eeeuuuwww since that is what Mary said when she saw it :) Toadzilla has kept to himself for many years in his own burrow, but since Spaz moved they have made a larger one. I just want to know if there could be a problem with this. Any feedback would be helpful.

You should not have all those species together , it is really bad! If you think Spaz was doing OK in the place you found him you should probably put him back too. And yes, firebellies are toxic and should not be mixed with any other species of animal except themselves.Do your herps a favor and seperate them into appropriate enviroments.

From what I can tell yes I believe it is a bullfrog but more pics would be more helpful. As for firebellies they should not be mixed with anything they are toxic and can even be toxic to themselves if you do not clean everything in their tank often. I know i'm pretty much just echoing here but it's facts. All those breeds should not be mixed together, they need different care and conditions, and yes if it is a bullfrog it will possibly eat the smaller ones. Do all of them a favor and get saperate tanks for them, and again if the "bullfrog" would be safe where it was it's better off to release it, they grow rather quickly and need a lot of space and are much happier in a open pond. However if it's not safe to return him/her then get a large tank should be atleast semi aquatic do some research and make sure you can handle it or find another home for it. I said a lot I know sorry... good luck
