Keywords: king snake
I just recently bought this kingsnake at a reptile show. It was labled as california kingsnake. Is this some sort of subspecies or something because the only mountain kings ive seen are red black yellow.
i believe it is a striped cali king snake...i saw one at the store today looked very similar

Yup, this is definitely a striped California Kingsnake. Does the stripe break at all, near the snake's tail? If not, this is rather rare. Great looking snake!

The striped morphs are endemic to San Diego County. It's not a mountain king.

The stripe doesnt break up at all on this snake. I saw a similar snake to this but its line breaks up in 2 or 3 places.

I refrain from my last prediction. That is definately a desert phase striped Calking. The white is very clean & the black is very dark. The coastal phase has off white & dark chocolate color(almost black). And the Newport phase is off-white and off-black as well w/aberrant patterns down the sides.I have a 50/50 coastal/desert phase banded Calking. She has narrow off-white bands.......not as bright as a D.P.but not as dingy as a C.P. either. She is also very dark chocolate upon inspection and not pure black like a D.P.But on the sides her narrow bands on top flare out down in a "v" or "a" pattern much like some desert phases(D.p.)do. :)

Your snake looks huge - how long is he? Our almost identical snake is 3.5 feet.
