Yes, you are mainly right. T (the argus) is my husband and I's and the bt/wt is Sobek (our friend's monitor). They are under heavy supervision even though they get along quite well. So what's the problem with that?

First of all thats Sobeks travel container (the BT/WT cross), the Argus is my friends. Sobek was along as I visited, and yes once Sobek lets it be known it is her container, they get along fine under direct personal supervision, as Sobek almost killed a male of her own species once, I wont leave them alone. You forget they dont see different races or species they see another monitor, if they get along they will, if they dont they wont. "T" the argus is a very social animal that gets along with many lizards that an argus would normally kill and eat.

Really Varanus? Then I guess you think all of these breeders that breed more than one species of monitor shouldn't right? Cause God forbid if they happen to be near eachother right? These monitors do not live together. They visit each other every once in a while and I personally don't see a problem with trying to socialize them if it doesn't seem to be stressing either one out.

hey "var_anus", did you read that somewhere??? Who cares if they see another species or not? The bottom line is that they're getting along.Plus its only a visit for christs sake.

Ok last post. I give up. You are missing the entire point that they are constantly supervised by a couple of adults that are only inches away. I think you can even see someone's knee in the pic.

Sobek and T are never more than a foot from us when they are together. T was given up to us as a rescue but he lived free roaming in a room with three Iguanas who also free roamed, when I went to pick him up he was defending an anaconda(yellow 8 feet) that had sought shelter behind him in the corner so as far as getting along my personal belief is that each and every animal has it's own personality and own level of trust. (example) We own a 3-4 foot blue nile that I trust more than most of the Savs. we have. Another: our male Timor runs and hides but the female is a total sweetheart and doesn't seem to mind being handled. I say the people who have the animals know them(the individual animal) better than any body just seeing a picture. These pictures are not put up for scrutiny just for others to enjoy also. I believe I speak for everyone on that fact.

To quote Frank Retes "Humans see different species, monitors only see another monitor". This keep in mind holds true unless one sees a predator or the other sees prey. 2 similar sized monitors see similar sized MONITORS not species. A salvator is a large monitor an exanthematicus is a medium, in Africa large species eat medium sized, but if they get along (youll know if they dont fast), then they get along, especially for a few minutes in neutral territory. Ya gotta use common sense and know the animal well enough.
