This was posted just for a recent post in the forum, and yes she gets fed by hand, everything from the size of a roach to that of a large rat. I dont suggest this to anyone as Ive raised her from a 2 month old baby for the last 2 years, and she was handled daily from hatching to this point.
SHvar, you starved Sobek so bad that she has to take a taste of Jodi now. LOL

lol...hit the wrong button
Black Throat Monitor
Varanus Albigularis Ionides
They are my personal favorites of the monitor family. They are easy to care for, most have a docile temperment yet are curious of their enviroment and they get BIG!!!
A good web site for general monitor info is www.varanus.nl
Good luck with your purchase.

Actually she is an F@ generation "Rob Faust Cross" she is the result of a V.Albigularis (Cape banded White throat) crossed with a blackthroat (Ionidesi, formerly, now actually Albig), then one female cross was bred with her father to produce a BT/WT/WT cross. Shes a varanus alBIGularis, lol...

Glad you mentioned that. There are too many people running around with "ionides" still on their tongues. ;-)

I went to the doctor and told him I have ionides on my tongue. He told me there was nothing he could do.

That's a great picture. I'm just wondering what size/type of enclosure you need to house a lizard that big in your home?

Should be as large as possible, shes stuck for now in 4x4x8ft, but I will build a 10x6x5 for her. She also gets frequent out of cage exercise and outdoor exercise.

Great looking lizard. Calm looking fiance. Lucky you! (My husband is so reptile-phobic he won't even go in the bathroom alone if one of my lizards is soaking in the tub!)

She cant get Sobek out of her cage or hold her still at all but she loves to hold her and most of the others. She even has a bearded dragon that layed her first eggs. This was meant to be sarcastic but Sobek is a big very strong girl.
