Argiope spider (I think). We get lots of these here in GA. One year one built a web on the wrong side (the inside of the sliding glass door). To my arachnophobic husband's dismay, I let her stay, opening the door for her each day. She did something I thought very strange each time he came near. She vibrated her web violently. She didn't do it when either my roommate or I approached (even if we stomped out feet to mimic a heavier person). She just did it when he approached. Anyone know what that was about? Maybe she was just messing with his head? LOL! I'm really, really curious about it!
haahahah, i feel sorry for your husband! lol, really strange but really funny! :)

Nice pic! She looks like she's about ready to lay her eggs too, nice and fat. They shake their webs to scare away and confuse predators if I remember correctly.
I live in GA too and last year we had a beautiful female that lived above our porch swing on the front porch. We couldn't use the swing, but she was awfully docile, even when I'd climb up and stick my camera in her face. She scattered 3 different egg sacs around the outside of the house and all of them hatched out. I'm hoping one of her babies will come back and take her place on the porch :)
