umm.... that is bad. U should NEVER feed a snake on loose substrate like moss.

First of all its Cypress and its not so lose.
And why not? I mean this is not a constricting snake. She just picks up her pre-killed pray item slowly.

He could have been standing by with a pair of tweezers or something. I occasionally feed my snakes in their cage on a flat surface and they never swallow anything. As long as you're watching and ready to flick something off then it should be fine. This guy was obviously watching if he took the pic. And how could you not watch this snake?

In the interest of education:

2.) According to general good herp- keeping procedures (backed by most experts in the field), it is recommended that a snake not be fed on anykind of loose substrates. These substrates present the potential for ingestion and disgestive problems. It not necessarily bad to feed them on it, but prevention is generally best policy. You can interpret this as you see fit and apply to your situation to the best of your ability.
For example:
Just because someone is in possession of a gun, doesn't mean they will use it inappropriately. However, if this same person didn't possess a gun, then the opportunity for misuse and abuse is no longer an issue.

what about in the wild the snakes cant be prevented from eating on loose substrate or do they have some one there ton take it out of the mouth?

well wild snakes die all the time. CB are considered investments or special.....you don't want that precious baby or precious money maker to die from a bark chip...

Dying from a small peice is ridiculus! I understand if it were to get an impaction from eating a lot, but my retics(big and small) get lots of bits of cypress in their mouths and I have not had one problem.
