Keywords: Ball Python ID
We just picked up this beautiful boy from a pet shop that has no idea about reptiles. They said some guy had to get rid of his collection and gave them to him. There were 2 M 1 F. He has no yellow to him what-so-ever, so were wondering if he might be something, maybe just a het. Anyone have any ideas?
(Having trouble with my login. Signed up for this account.) Comparing it with the other pics of the Axanthics, he looks like he has the same coloring to me. I need to get a female axanthic or het and prove or disprove him.

Anyone think it would be worth it to test it out?

It's normal and to the other posters...???...just how do you plan on having it tested? You need the entire breeding history. You don't just take some blood and "POOF" what do you know it's het for something or is some morph. There has to be either a proven blood line or you have to prove the trait out through breeding though I'm not sure what trait you'd be looking for from an apparent normal. Not every BP is some special morph and most that are "supposed special" colors are nothing more then a normal that someone says is something special to drive the asking price of the animal up. To the original poster...I'm not trying to take this out on you but the BP morph hysteria going on in this country right now is insane and needs to end. Most morphs are created through massive inbreeding which leads to weak immune systems and smaller, weaker animals in general. I don't really approve of the breeding practices that this BP Morph market has precipitated and it absolutely drives me crazy when people want or expect every BP to be some odd color or new high dollar morph.

Looks like a normal and not a very healthy one, a vet should be seen asap.
I see nothing to say its any line of axanthic.

No he doesn't have mouth rot. We got him from a petstore. The owner brought in three of them because he couldn't keep them. He has been to the vet. He has scars on his head from what the vet said appeared to be a feeding injury which have healed.

Have you taken him to a vet personally? NEVER EVER trust a pet store guy when it comes to the health of your animals. It is very wishful thinking to think that you got an axanthic from a petstore. What a lot of people don't understand is that a ball pythons pattern and color is very variable. In the reptile community most "Pet Store Guys" are the scum of the earth, LOL!!!

Yes we took him as soon as we got him. The petstore guy didn't have any information. Trust me, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them! =)

Hey Guys,
I have been the owner of a petstore and I have been honnest to all of my customers. I had the rule to not sell any sick animal and I sticked to it. One of the reasons why I closed my shop was that so many people don't give a damn about the health and welfae of the animals they keep. So my well meant advice when I sold an animal went down the drain as soon as they left my shop.
So I trust people who buy reptiles as far as I can throw now, lol.
Thank god there are also a lot of serious people, like the people reading and posting on forums (they are the interested and serious ones).

Chris, that was very stereotypical of me to say. I am sure there are some good guys out there! I haven't found any yet.
