Keywords: Pink spider, garden spider
I was doing some yardwork today and out came this beautiful pink and white-ish spider. I ran to get my camera in hopes that someone could identify it for me. The bottom side of the abdomen is also white, but with a thin black stripe down the center.
I checked my references and couldn't find a specific species for you...it would help if I knew where you found it, if it had a web, etc.

I'm located in Portland, Oregon next to a wooded area. I was doing some gardening next to the house in some semi-dried up weeds that were about a foot tall. I did not notice a web for the spider--it just sort of appeared on the ground and started crawling up the wall when I disturbed its habitat. When it did find a spot to sit for a while, it got busy making the beginnings of a web--I have a feeling it might be some sort of orb weaver the way it was going back and forth. Thanks.

Well, I'm in McMinnville (about 40 min away from you)!! Anyway, I didnt' find it in my book, but would guess maybe in the neoscona family? Obviously an orb weaver! Great job on the photo!
