Are you sure about that? It looks like every triungus (three toed) that I have ever hatched or seen and nothing at all like the T. c. carolinas hatchlings I am raising.

Yep. I'm sure that it was found in the Zaleski State Forest in se. OH, and that I took the pic, and that T.c.carolina is the box turtle that occurs there. The chance it was released there is remote I'd say.

PS: Would you guess an age on this turtle? I thought it was a baby, but one in our group said it had to be five yrs. old, because it has five growth rings. Is that true? Thanks...TC.

that is a baby. that is a myth about the age of a turtle can be found from its rings.

It's likely within 2 years of age. Carolina can & do look very similar to Triungus as young, sometimes even into subadulthood. From that shot, hard to say but if you found in OH, it's probably as you say, a Carolina.

Yeah, that's deffinately an Eastern, Triungus only comes as close as 2 states away from Ohio.
