What is he looking at? Lunch maybe? Someone had better leave a comment about how good they think my pictures are. Or I'll cry for three days and on the third day I will slap myself.
This Mantis, as well as all the others Rice has posted, are Carolina Mantises, a species native to the southern & central US and parts of Mexico. I've had more experience with this species than any other Mantis, as they were all over the place in my home town of Houston, Texas. This one is a juvenile, as evidenced by the lack of wings. When adult, the males have full-length, useable wings (and they're very quick to use them, too), while the female's wings only extend halfway down the abdomen and are useless for flight, but are used in defensive threat displays.
