I don't think Bob used ps on his amazing varanids, after all, there is no reason to. These are the real deal, not doctored images.

Now be nice. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion... even if it's wrong.
At first glance I thought the yellow one was varanus melinus, but it does appear to be a prasinus. Oddly enough though when I do a search for "yellow tree monitor" I keep getting back info on v.melinus, which I think is more closely related to the mangroves.
Going back to my original question, what's the deal with the yellow prasinus? Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?

Hi everybody,
THIS IS NOT A DOCTORED IMAGE!! As many of you do not know, there are several different species of tree monitors, ranging in colors from black, blue, emerald green, black with yellow spots, and there are two or three yet-to-be described/taxonomized species/subspecies in indonesia. This yellow prasinus-type monitor is one of those. From reports, this yellow tree monitor(not to be confused with V. melinus-which is by no means a TREE monitor!!- a member of the indicus/doreanus complex), is native to higher elevations on the PNG mainland, whereas the green prasinus comes from lower elevations.
Indonesia is comprised of thousands of small islands, and as more and more of these islands are explored, you will see that there are dozens of varying species of varanids. Who knows what other gems will be discovered in the future..
Going back 8 years ago, or so, australia had the most species of varanids, however, as these islands have been explored, indonesia has surpassed aussie's count significantly...
Cheers, I hope this clears things up.. For more info and such, go to my site:

have a great day, fellow varanaphiles...

I don't really doubt you, just never seen a yellow, in person or online. Two days of searching several sites and search engines. Nothing. Even your site only shows the green. Just questionable, not doubting.

what are you talking about my site only shows the green? At the main page, there is links to my info on V. prasinus(green), V. beccari(black), V. macraei(blue),and V. boehmei(yellow spotted).
As for the yellow, like I said, it is a newly discovered species/subspecies, which has yet to be officially described and taxonomized(named). There is very little known about them, and the only decent pic of this new variance is the one that you are seeing. Give it a couple of months, and I'm sure you will see more pics, along with the two other newly discovered variants of tree monitors over in indo. Interesting stuff...
The world of monitor lizards is a very fascinating place. I encourage you all to read up on them, for you will come to see that there is more to the genus Varanus than just savanahs and niles... Cheers, have a great day..
