I have a Cal King as well, but not quite as old. Is your snake good natured? Mine is very good natured, but I've been told with age that could change. Just wondering how your king is.

I've seen your pictures too! I am new to snakes and not as knowledgeable as most. My husband says that w/c snakes have better personalities, because he feels that the captive bred snakes have some "in-breeding" which can tweak their personalities. This is just his opinion. The king in the picture was w/c about a week ago. It has never tried to strike, but does still musk and rattle his tail. The musking is not as frequent. Our w/c gopher also has a great personality. My husband says he has NEVER seen a w/c kingsnake be aggressive toward humans. We don't have a lot of experience with c/b snakes. We only have a milk snake and a scarlet king...they are a little skittish but they are really young too. I think a lot of it has to do with the way the snake is treated. We also try to handle our snakes at least 15 minutes a day. Hope this helps. I don't pretend to be an expert :) ...Lisa

One more thing I want to clarify...our kingsnake only musks and rattles his tail when we open the cage to get him out. Once we are holding him...there has never been any aggression, musking or rattling at all. :) But we did name him Musketeer ;)

Thanks for your comments. I've heard these horror stories about Cal's becoming aggressive when older. Like you, I try to handle my snakes everyday. My cal has never tried to strike, even when I get him out of the cage. The only time he has musk and rattled his tail is if I get too close when he is feeding. I don't feed him in his cage, rather I feed him in a shoe box, and have since he was born. It's the same shoe box, and he knows it well. The second he is placed in the box, his whole disposition changes. He stands up and will strike at anything that comes his way! Anyway, thanks for the comment.

Kudos to somebody for making the bed;-) Where did you collect that handsome feller? I mean the snake. I'm guessing you live near Davis, CA.

Hey..I always make my bed! :)
Well...this snake was found in Madera. We are about 3.5 hours from Davis. We live in Fresno.

My WC Black King is docile as a kitten... My CB baby Cali is nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Strikes at me all the time until I pick it up.

Well, the he is a she! Our w/c king laid eggs yesterday. And guess what? She stopped musking! ;) She's got a great personality. I hope the babies do to.

That is awesome. All the rewards, none of the work.

Well, we won't have the reward until the babies arrive :) But you are right...it was a nice surprise!
