Green anacondas have a bad reputation as aggressive captives. There certainly are a lot of neonate condas that live up to that rep. too. That is why it is extremely important to get you conda from a reputable breeder. You can find greens condas a lot of places and for a really cheap price but the quality of the animal will be sub-par. A huge amount of neonates are captive born from newly imported females. The female you see in my pic has an extremely docile temperment and has only bit me on very rare occasions. The last was when I was moving and she was transported in a big rubbermaid tub. When I went to get her out she let me know how pleased she was to be locked up in that tub. lol I take her outside for some stretching and crawling around without any problems. There is someone selling extremely good 3rd gen. captive bred greens in the KS classifieds that you should check out. I have a male from them that I will be breeding to this female in '06. Anacondas ARE NOT beginer snakes. If you've never had a large boa or python I would not recomend getting one. Remember that the female green anaconda is the biggest snake in the world. Since the big retic breeding frenzy over the last few years they have become a lot more docile compared to when I had some years ago. A retic might be a better choice for you. Post in the conda forum for some more input.

actually the female anaconda is the heaviest snake not neccesarily the biggest ..that record still belongs to the reticulated python

I said the biggest because the female green conda IS the biggest. The reticulated is the longest. Length is never used to describe big. Would you say that a 6'7" ethiopian marathon runner is "bigger" then a 6'4" sumo wrestler?

Actually Therhego the female Green Anaconda is the heaviest snake and it also holds a record for the longest snake at 37 and a 1/2 feet long while the retics is at 33 or 34

As much as I would like it to be so, the 37 1/2' conda was never proven. I believe the longest snake proven does go to the retic. There has been a contest for a very long time to give money to anyone with proof of a snake over 30' and the prize still has not been claimed. I think its the smithsonian offering the money but I can't remember. If anyone reading this knows about the longest snake contest please correct me if I'm wrong.

That statistic is not a proven case. I believe that is based off a skin and anaconda skins can easily be stretched 2 times their length as they were a living snake. The longest snake reconded is still generaly accepted as the 33 ft reticulated python. I believe the largest anaconda measured was 27 ft and while not weighed it was estimated at 500 lbs. That would have easily broken world records but you cannot base a record on an estimate. This is why Baby holds the record for the largest snake in the world and fluffy is likely to beat it. So while there are no world records with the green anaconda it is undoubtedly the largest snake in the world especially as far as the wild goes. And as far as that contest goes...I have heard that a number of times and people have not been able to come up with an animal which leads me to believe either that was only to beat this record as the only snake of 30 ft or that stat may be a little sketchy itself but I believe since I have heard it from good sources much better than anyone publishing the 37.5 ft anaconda. And if the retic was not 33 ft then there is certainly a proven 29 ft snake to follow right behind it allowing nothing else but the reticulated python to be the undesputed length chamion of the world. and the bigger and longer argument. bigger is bigger and longer is longer...longer is not bigger. A 33 ft rope is not bigger than a 27 ft steel I-beam.
