BOA WOUND!! ANYBODY KNOW WHY?

Keywords: boa constrictor surinames surinams suris bcc redtail redtale tail tale roodstaart staart rtb wounded female 0.1

Just to make sure: THIS IS NOT NEGLECT! And the pics are taken before the wound was cleaned further! So there is still some bedding material visible in and around the wound.

This is my female Suri BCC...She has a big gaping wound in her left side... And I have no certain real idea why! Anyone have a guess or an idea?

THE FACTS:
1) She shares a cage with a male
2) She just shed and the shed skin also shows this wound
3) She is not agressive, having this wound
4) The wound does not seem to be be painfull to the snake, as I could clean the wound without any form of agression towards me
5) There are no sharp objects in the cage
6) The wound does NOT look like a burn wound (from for instance a lamp)
7) The wound DOES look like a 'clean tear'... It just looks torn...
8) There are NO teethmarks from the male visible in the flesh underneath

MY GUESS:
Maybe it sounds stupid, but my GUESS is: Something went wrong during the shedding-process... She might have got stuck behind the bark which is in the cage, in an effort to rid herself of the skin. (The bark is visible on another photograph in my gallery with my male boa on top of it).

Does anyone have a guess or idea?

Crazycodykadunk: No, I feed her dead rats...

Pythons_n_boas: Indeed, it doesn't look very nice... But basically it's just a loose flap of skin... It does not appear to be a super heavy wound.

Anyway, I'm not happy about his AT ALL... She's a beautiful snake, and I like to keep it that way. And no-one wants their animals to suffer of course, I'm really down about this...

i must have missed the part that said she shares a cage with a male. the male could have done this if he wanted to mate or if he was hungry or just haveing a bad day. if the male did do that he must have bit, tooth got stuck and tryed to pull away. i would check the males mouth. i dont keep snakes in the same cage except for them to breed.

Thanks Bigsnake... Yeah, I really hope it will all be ok...

CrazyCody: The male isn't hungry, and I doubt he had a bad day, haha... I've got the male for 4,5 years now and he never showed any sign of agression. Except at feeding time, hahaha... Anyway, it might indeed have something to do with mating. And in fact, if there is a reason for this wound, that wound be the best one I can think about :) Anyway, we'll see how it turns out...

Thanks for your reply!

UPDATE:

She's at the vets now for stitching... The vet also confirmed my guess as to how this could have happened, she probably got stuck while trying to rid herself from the old skin.

Let's just say she overdid the shedding =D

I can pick her up again tomorrow.
The vet would give me a call if something went wrong or anything, but he didn't. So I think she will be ok...

Another update and a pic of the stiching-result when I've picked her up tomorrow...

Oh man!
I am really sorry to see that!!!!! You know this happened once to me.I kept two 3 foot Burmese pythons together in one cage, and one night I woke up to get myself something to drink (and I usually at that time check my snakes.) Right before my eyes my male got my female leaving her with something similar to what I see in this picture (not that big of course). From that time I will never let two snakes to share the same cage no matter how tame they are.(They were extremally tame).

I hope this will end up all right and I am looking forward to see more pictures of your boas!!!!!!
