Goodbye, My Skye

Skye was a dog who had a huge impact in his long life. He was one of the first Scottish Deerhounds widely known to be afflicted with an emerging genetic disorder in our breed, cystinuria, and this led me, as his breeder and owner, to become very active in educating others about this kidney defect. He had two serious surgeries due to this condition, and while they took their toll on him (and us!), he actually lived well past his 11th birthday - a good long time for a giant breed dog!

Skye also ran for governor of California in a widely publicized campaign. You can read about it here:

Whatever "fame" life brought him, Skye was first and foremost our beloved friend. My mother Kathleen McKenzie and I will miss him forever.

Goodbye, My Skye!

I am so sorry for your loss. I know that they aren't just pets but they are part of the family.

He must have been healthy. He lived long. And he must've been a good dog.

My Prayers are with you!

Sincerely,
KoKo
