Not sure where you live... but it seems to resemble a beetle larvae that resides in the hills in soythern california. The beelte is closely related to the firefly and though the adult doesn't illuminate... the larvae should give off a faint pink glow. (I've never seen one in person... I could be way off)

As it appears to have 6 legs its diffinitely a larval stage of something.Can you catch one of the "wierd flies" and send the pic to et@theofficenet.com with maybe a closer but clear pic of this larvae?
