i guess i will be the first to tell you that feeding your ig a plate of human food is a really dumb idea. The phosporous and protein content of the pasta, and the preservatives and sugar in the sauce is enough to destroy his poor liver, fatten up his heart, muck up his blood chemistry, and soften his bones.
The feeding regimin in this picture illustrates to me why the color of both of your iguanas is terrible. It may make for a cute picture, but you are essentially killing you lizards. Please, take my advice and get them on a diet of calcium ritch greens such as dandelion greens, collards, escarole, turnip greens and spring mix. MAke sure that you supplement with a calcium with no phosporous and some D3. Get them under some high quality UV lights too, please. Their color is really quite bad and they seem a bit thin. Please please take my advice....believe me, vet bills that are incurred from poor diet and low calcium are not fun at all.

nah this is only the second time ever he's eaten any kind of people food, and it wasn't a platefull. They eat collard greens and dry iguana food with spray on vitamins. I do live in a very woodsy area with long winters here in MA. So it's not like sunny Florida by any means, and getting the sunlight they should have is impossible here. I have 48" 5.0 reptisuns which i dont think do anything for them. So yes there color isnt too great, but overall i think their doing fine. So thanks for the concern. Oh and the big one would'nt eat on his own for over a month when i first got him so im fattening him up now that he's eating good.

how often do you change your UVB bulbs?

I rate this picture a 0 but that is not on the scale. I run a small time iguana rescue and I cannot BELIEVE what you are doing to your iguanas. They are not getting any benefit from the UVB bulb because they are not within 12 in of it for a good part of the day. Also, animal protien is NEVER under any curcumstances OK!! Your iguanas are dying inside. What about that do you not get? I have a 4 1/2 foot male right now with MBD (do you know what that is?) a broken leg and mouth rot. DO you know how he got it? CHicken and steak once every six months, no calcuim, an old UVB light and owners who didn't care. I just spent $210 on the start of treatments to fix the broken leg, the mouth rot and x-rays on the broken ribs. Give those iguanas to someone who cares or change what you are doing. Also, male iguanas do NOT love each other. They never will. You should learn not to impose your silly human emotions on those poor things. They don't "love" like we do and you should stop assuming you do before one or obth of them end up dead. I hope I have offended you. maybe you will do some research in an attempt to prove me wrong. Have a nice day.

yea okay your being really helpful with your nasty comments and assumptions. I said b4 that i dont feed them people food. This was a one time treat i gave to him. He did not eat any meat just some sauce which I thought was ok. I didnt think about the sugar content in the sauce would be life threatening to eat one time. But i do know that ppl food is not good for them thats y i never give him any and havent for years. The light is on them 12 hrs a day so dont blame me because up until recently this was best light for them. I have heard of new lights that they say provide a much better uvb output from reptileuv.com. Why dont you be helpful and tell me the best light you think is out there. Most people have these lights ALONG with a sunny window. Here direct sunlight comes from 9am-12pm, 3 hours on the opposite side of the house.

First of all he never ate any meat. Why do i hear all the time of people feeding pizza to they're Ig's regularly. So i gave them a little pasta one time, so what it's not a problem because it was one time he's eaten any people food. My iguana's get plenty of calcium. Collard greens have the most calcium out of all the greens. Maybe u didnt know that.

Why don't you be helpful instead of assuming something that didn't happen and then bash me for it. I will be buying a new uv shortly it's been about 6 months. Since u seem to know everything tell me whats the best one out there and where to get it.

You said in your previous post that this was the 2nd time that this iguana has eaten human food. And just to correct you, it is getting animal protien in that pasta. There is something called eggs in the noodles. Read the package. Also, if you are GOING to use a florecent tube, then go with Zoo-Med Iguana light, Zoo-Med 5.0 or 8.0. Like I said before they need to be 12in from it a good part of the day. Also, you COULD use a mercury vapor bulb. They, in my opinion, are the best. Zoo-Med makes a nice one called the power sun. There are a few out there, but I would not reccomend the fourpaws brand one. They don't even hold up to their own heat for a month. A real cruddy piece of work. Also, you can get most of these from anywhere that carries reptile supplies. You can go to LLL reptile, AAA reptile, That Pet place, or reptile depot online to buy these lights. It is up to you. Look at the supply dealers list on the kingsnake hompage and there is a whole mess of them. Yes, I did know that calcium is in good supply in collard greens, I feed them everyday, thanks.
