This is one of my Dendrobates reticulatus froglets. I don't think it is any specific morph, although these all seem more of a cherry red than organge to me. They are still very tiny as adults, less than 1/2 inch. They are active, bold little guys.

The species designation is usually descriptive of a particular species within a genus. While the descriptions are not repeated within a single genus, you may find a lot of duplicates of a name like "reticulatus." Others you find often in both plants and animals are alba (white) nana (small) rubra (red), odoratus (stinky)Pumilio (dwarf)pulcher, pulchrum, pulchellus (beautiful), etc. A species name alone is not significant unless one knows which genus one is taliking about. So this is Dendrobates reticulatus, while the reticulated python is Python reticulatus. Once this is established in a paper or conversation, you can then abreviate the genus name to D. or P., and just use the species name.
(Other species names may be after a partcular person or place. Hope this helps clear up the confusion for you.
