Is 10 weeks a good age to get a coatimundi? Why so?

Between 8-10 weeks is the perfect age to get one. I think its best to get ANY pet as a baby. So you can teach it from the start whats ok and not ok, and bond with it.
As YOU know, it is MUCH easier to bond with a baby sugar glider, then to get an adult glider that you dont know how its been treated its whole life to bond to you. Same thing goes with any exotic. And most non exotics too.

Do you still have to finish bottle raising it at 8-10 weeks? Wouldn't that be too old to get one? Are they still a really small baby at 8-10 weeks? Again, I'm just trying to learn.

A Coati baby fully weans between 8-10 weeks old. So as long as its weaned you do not have to bottle feed it. Mine were NEVER bottle fed. They had thier moms milk from the beggining to the end. Not everyone bottlefeeds thier babies. When mine have babies I will not bottle feed them either. I think (personally) that it is best for ANY animal to get moms milk rather than get a substitute. If you handdle the babies every day it wont matter wether they have been bottle raised or not. Its just a matter of wether the mom will LET you handle them. Another reason people bottle raise is because alot of times the mother wont care for the babies, and even kill them herself.
If our girl shos any sign of not caring about her babies when they are born, then we will bottle feed. Otherwise she will get to do it as she should. Not nice to take any baby away from its mother if it wants to be a mother! :)
So, between 8-10 weeks it is weaned. If you got a Coati, say from Cliff, that was not yet weaned, then you should bottle feed it till about 6 weeks old, shich is probably the age he would sell it at, just guessing, and offer it soft foods but keep bottle feeding it till it is at least 8 weeks old and eating solids well.
Hmmmmm, hope that helps.

Well that fills me in a little bit more, thanks. I wish I had step-by-step instructions on how to breed and then raise a litter of baby coatis.

Well, I dont think HOW TO: Breed them would really be any issue. My male is constantly going at it with my female even though she is too young for it to do anything. But he is always PRACTICIING. So when the time comes, that she CAN have babies, it will happen very easilly. Its just a matter of noticing her weight gain to know she is pregnant and get the male out and separate them.
Then , HOW TO: raise the babies....that would be a good one to have. But at least I'm sure Cliff could help you on that one. I'm sure he's got plenty of practice there. :)

So you think it is just a natural thing that I will have an idea how to do when the time comes? I just need help with bottle raising the babies if the mom doesnt do it (raise the babies).
