Zebras are truly wonderful animals. They are beautiful, intelegent and unique. But, Zebras require A LOT of care. When I got mine as 4 day old babies, I had to feed them milk every 2 hours, round the clock for 2 weeks. Then it moved to every 4 hours on a self feeder. This continues until they are at least 3 months depending on individual's needs. The feeding schedule does not let up there, then you have to make sure your suppliments are what your youngster needs. One on one training every day is required to have a well mannered animal. Training zebras is different than training horses, they are still a wild animal, and always will be. Too many people get them because they are "cool" then get hurt by them. A person needs to have knowledge and experience with others before getting one of their own.

Zebras can be ridden, although it doesn't happen often. To train a zebra to be ridden takes alot of time and patience, not to mention experience, and more time. There needs to be a strong bond and lots of trust for a wild prey animal to allow us predatory humans to climb onto their backs. Zebras have also been driven, packed used for petting zoos, educational programs and many other productive uses. Many zebras also fall into the hands of those that have them "because they can." Some of these unfortunate zebras are not cared for properly and become aggressive. They can hurt and kill people. The end is often being sold for a zebra skin rug. That, or they are put into a small pen and left there until they die, that is no life for a wild animal.
