P.S. I would take that water dish out and replace it with a sponge... I can't tell but I think it is too deep.

Well Dennis, need a much closer pic. To get an idea what species of tarantula this is, unlike what kidcrazze said you first off can't tell what species or even genus it is by that pic. let alone whether it is male or female. There are so many brown tarantulas but the most common is the rose hair so there is a good chance that is what you have there.
DO NOT put a sponge in there, bacteria playground, but do put a dish that is little more shallow. KIdcrazze learn a little more about tarantulas before you try and give advice.

I'll explain...
Rose hair because like you said it is the most common... If you look closely at the head you see the ROSE color...
The reason I say female is because of the size of the abdomen. Males usually have a much skinnier abdomen. And as for the sponge... They ARE O.K. to use as long as you change them before they get gross. Water dishes are dangerous because T's take in air in from the bottom and could drown in the water dish if she walks in it. And don't tell me I don't know anything just because my opinons are different from yours.
The best advice i can give to the T owner is feed her well, give her a nice hide spot, dont give her such a deep water dish and mist her once a day.

Kidcrazee, you are right, that is a G Rosea, but you are wrong about the sponge, sponges can be loaded with bacteria even when its not gross. Also, how would you be able to keep it hydrated? I find that sponges drain pretty quickly. As for the water dish, it may be too large, but the spider is not stupid and wont just throw itself in, when it is thirsty it will just simply lower its front till its fangs touch the water n start drinking from there.
Thanks,
Ben

Since last post I have taken the sponges out, and now use shallow water bowls. Thanks for the advice, and sorry I gave wrong advice when I said to use one, at the time it was my opinion of what I thought was right. -Joe
