I'd have to agree with SSC. I have a bull snake that looks very much like this snake, but bulls and sonoran gophers are almost identical. He could even be an intergrade, since these two subspecies are known to intergrade across a wide area of West Texas and Northern Mexico. Whatever he is, he looks like he's about to shed.
