Keywords: green snake dominican republic identify

I saw this snake in a tree in the Dominican Republic this past summer, and am looking for anyone who can identify it.

It looks like some type of vine snake. I could be wrong. They're rear fanged and have a mild venom. I have one myself, an Asian Vine Snake. Very beautiful snakes.

Well, the fact that the photo was taken in the Dominican kinda rules out asian vine...

It does appear that Dick is correct, it is a species of vine snake. Some research has narrowed it down the the genus Uromacer, with three species present in the Dominican, U. catesbyi, U. frenatus, and U. oxyrhynchus, but I cannot figure out which one. Thanks for the comments, and if anyone knows the species, let me know!

Cheers

Hi Kyle,

I am sure that it is Uromacer catesbyi, but I am not on the subspecies.

Uromacer catesbyi catesbyi
Uromacer catesbyi cereolineatus
Uromacer catesbyi frondicolor
Uromacer catesbyi hariolatus
Uromacer catesbyi inchausteguii
Uromacer catesbyi insulaevaccarum
Uromacer catesbyi pampineus
