Keywords: jungle carpet python stripe

This is one of my new female JCP's. She is only about 7m old and is already showing awesome coloration. Her markings are incredible - she has a nice broken dorsal stripe. I can't wait for her to mature.

Very nice!!!

How is your snake's temperment?

I have read mixed reviews of how nice or nippy they can be. How do you rate the Jungle Carpet Python's behavior?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
I know what you're talking about - there really are mixed reviews. I own 4 JCP's (1 adult, 3 juvies), of the 4, 3 have exceptional demeanor's.. very docile. 1 though, "Omega", I swear is the devil incarnate!!!! She atta[bleep]s the glass if you walk by her. We handle her with leather gloves. She's still young though..I can tame her down. Generally speaking, I like the JCP's. People say they are nippy, but I guess it just depends on the particular animal you buy. I sure wouldn't invest in a demon adult... I'd rather take my chances with a youngster. No matter what snake it is, I say they all have their bad days. I've been bitten unprovoked on many occasions by many different species. Bottom line though.... Pythons are and always will be my favorite snake.. even "Omega". :)
Regards,
Hailey

PS- I'll try to get some pictures of Omega posted tomorrow. She is a sister of the JCP pictured here.

That sounds promising. Before I would buy a snake, I would make sure it's a baby and then I would go to the store to see it like a few times to make sure that it wasn't crazy and wouldn't try to bite me. If on 3 visits it was docile, then I have to assume that it's fairly tame...

Thanks for posting pics (early)...

Thanks, I look forward to it...

How long before the snakes are not "babies" and stop snapping when being fed? 3 months? 6 months? Like, if I have a snake that's a year-old and he is biting, perhaps he is not a baby anymore, he is just a devil...

Thanks,
Dan

My oldest didn't settle down until about 2y. The babies are all approx 7m, so I have a ways to go with them. of the 3 youngsters - 1 has never struck at me, 1 strikes occasionally, and 1 is the devil. I don't think age has anything to do with it though.. I have had snakes @ all ages develop 'attitudes'.
