Keywords: RES Shell Turtle Rock

My RES has been sitting on this rock for some time and has complete dried out his shell. He shed several scutes. It look very beat up and rough. Any suggestions or is this natural?

That's not a normal shell color for regular "run of the mill" RES. Are the scutes shedding in large sections or little flakey pieces? Do you feed it shrimp? Shrimp can have a bacteria that can cause a shell infection. If not that then maybe a fungal infection?

Yes, I do feed him dried shrimp and pellets.

His scutes come off in large sections. It seems he is loosing most if not all of them. The new ones under neath do not appear to be any "cleaner" or more colorful.

He basket allot, or I would assume allot, since this is the only turtle I have. Even at night with the lights off I will find him on his rock.

Otherwise he seems in good health. I'll try replacing the shrimp with greens of some sort and see if it improves, unless you have another idea.

If it is some kind of infection, you'll have to cure it. Go to the vet.
