This is my Ball Pythons Cage that I hand built. The light is inside it at this time, however, I will drill/cut a hole ontop of the cage for the heat lamp to shine down. Dont need my Python Burnt.

Magnificent looking. Looks roomy to which is great.
I notice some do use heat lights in the enclosure but like you I wont risk it . You could put a bulb "cage" around it if you dont want to re-do it.
