No, 714 is just random. I was pretty sure he was a male, is it the bright yellow that gives it away? Or something else?

No not the yellow both male and female have that, it is the folio or the band down the center of it's abdomen that gives it away, the male don't have much of a band where as the females have a nice cream brown band with maybe a little brown in there, go back through my pictures and you will see a picture of my female striata, she looks a lot like a female regalis would... Regalis and a few others in the Poecilotheria genus you can sex by the folio, I have a male and a female regalis cohabing right now and have been for the last 3 months, unfortunately I am not sure if she is mature yet...
Yes they are one of the most venomous T's and they are fast but over all in general they are not very defensive, that been said they are not a genus to be holding unless you are sure of what you are doing and are prepared to take a hit from them and know what a nasty hit it can be...
