this is a picture of napoleon about 10 months ago when he had a lot of red on him... I'd like to point out that we don't use sand any longer because of the health risks...

what are the health risks of using sand?

There is only one brand of sand that we have found so far, that does not have a high risk of impactions. If you feed them in the cage, they eat some of the sand with their food and they can't always digest it... especially if you feed mealworms because most of the time they'll get out their bowl and start to burrow and if the beardie sees it and pulls it up, he eats a lot of sand with it. We just had one at work that died last night from this exact thing... personally, we use indoor/outdoor carpet in all of our adult beardie cages...

I am so sorry, I had a lot on my mind when I wrote that, we use Repti Sand and it has the really fine grain pieces... for the babies we use the repti sand but for all the juveniles and adults we use indoor outdoor carpet... the babies just seem to be so much happier on the sand...

Okay, I use sand called vita-sand its really really fine. It might be the same brand as repti-sand but vita has calcium in it
