How long did it take your gator too get that big

I have a gator he is almost 4ft I have had him for 2 1/2 years

i have had him for 6 yrs now. I had him as a hatchling. So I guess it took 6yrs. Depends on diet,heat resources

what do you use to heat the water in your gator tank. I have used heating rods from fish tanks in the past but my gator is big now and bites at the rods. what can I use??
